Janet Jacksons Vancouver fans get a big concert shocker, folk-pop yodeler Jewel is workin on a new album and bad girl Courtney Love battles it out with the remaining of Nirvana.
Janet will return to Vancouver on Monday July 9th. I'm sure she'll be worth the wait!
bo-ho folk chick Jewel? For her next album the flavor will be blues-rock, pop and bossa nova. There's no word on a title yet but the album is scheduled to drop November 13, 2001 according to Atlantic Records. Producer John Kurzweg says that based on Jewel's 17 demo tracks her new music may stun fans who know her from songs like Who Will Save Your Soul and Hands. He also says "it is really cool stuff." Some of it's similar to Jewel's signature folk sound and some of it's a little edgier.
Jewel recorded one of the tracks with Jane's Addiction drummer Stephen Perkins. Even though she's recorded a bunch of tracks it's not clear which ones will end up on the album. Jewel has several live dates for the summer of 2001 including a July 19 appearance in New York's Central Park.
Bad girl, Courtney Love, is in a legal battle against the surviving of Nirvana over 120 tapes of unreleased material with Kurt Cobain. Rumor has it the tapes will remain in a vault until Nirvana's record co. gives the band a better deal.
The tapes include recordings of Kurt Cobain alone and of the band over the years including Nirvana's first show in Seattle from April 1988 and four-track demos. The valuable stash also includes bedroom tapes of Kurt singing and strumming new songs and classics like All Apologies and You Know You're Right. One of the unreleased tracks is called Opinion. Unless Courtney resolves her battle with Dave Grohl (now in the Foo Fighters) and Chris Novoselic, and Universal agrees to "redefine Nirvana's deal" to meet her requirements, it's unlikely you'll get to hear these gems.
