After rehabbing the foot, Yao returned to light training late last month. Although he is still not at 100 percent, Yao will play in two more exhibition games before the Beijing Olympics start on August 8. China is expected to compete for a medal in men's basketball.

The Denver Nuggets traded Marcus Camby to the Los Angeles Clippers for a future second round draft pick.

After 12 years in the majors, Hideo Nomo retired on Thursday from professional baseball. The 39-year-old Nomo was only the second player from Japan to reach the MLB and was the 1995 Rookie of the Year. He is credited with leading the Japanese rush of players to make the majors. He was released by the Kansas City Royals in April.

The New York Mets have continued their hot streak as they have won their last 10 games. As of Friday, their record stands at 52-44, and are tied for first place in the NL East with Philadelphia.
