Ever want to know what it's like to go backstage at the ESPYS? Eleven-year old Nichyria Byrd got to find out! As the Kellogg's Frosted Flakes Youth Achievement Award winner, Nichyria got the chance to attend the dance team, she's a good student and she's a good person! We had the honor of interviewing Nichyria about her ESPYS experience!
Simon: Tell us about your ESPYS experience.
Nichyria Byrd: Well my ESPYS experience was awesome! It was my first time on a plane going to LA. I met a lot of people: Jerry Rice, Eli Manning, George Gervin and Joe Theisman. And Justin Timberlake was a great host!
Simon: Did you get to meet Justin?
Nichyria Byrd: No, I didn't get to meet him.
Simon: Have you been to California before?
Nichyria Byrd: It was my first time in California, it was so much fun!
Simon: What was it like being on the red carpet and having your picture taken?
Nichyria Byrd: It was very exciting being there.
Simon: How did you get chosen to go to the ESPYS?
Nichyria Byrd: First I was nominated by Girls on the Run and international then Kelloggs set up a website for the nationwide voting and I had the most votes.
Simon: Who was your favorite person you got to meet?
Nichyria Byrd: My favorite person was Joe Theisman because he let me wear one of his championship rings and we took pictures together which was really cool!
Simon: Did he let you keep the ring?
Nichyria Byrd: Oh no! (laughs) But it was kind of big on my finger anyway!
Simon: What kind of activities to you participate in back home?
Nichyria Byrd: I play basketball, I run with Girls on the Run, I dance and that's about it.
Simon: Why do you like to participate in so many activities and stay active?
Nichyria Byrd: Because it keeps your body fit and it's fun.
Simon: Where are you going to place your trophy?
Nichyria Byrd: Just in my bedroom.
Simon: What advice would you have for kids?
Nichyria Byrd: To dream big, have confidence and believe that you can do anything you put your mind to.
Simon: What would you like to be when you grow up?
Nichyria Byrd: I have a lot of things! (laughs) I would like to be either a lawyer, a runner or a professional dancer.
