Artie learns that ruling the dodgeball legend at his old school (a complete lie!); and The Horde, a group of bullies, steal his lunch[/kwlink] (which turns out to be a soap-sud sandwich, complements of his annoying sister). When Artie thinks his day can’t get any worse, he’s assigned to locker 001XCL—a locker that’s said to be cursed. And no student has ever managed to open it.

According to Artie’s new friends, anyone who manages to open locker 001XCL will rule the school. When Joe Roman, the biggest bully in school, finds out that the locker belongs to Artie, he’s determined to open it for himself. But no matter how many times Joe pulls, pushes, bangs or yanks, the locker door just won’t budge.

Artie tries next. And in front of a mob of students, the locker opens. Joe is fuming mad. “Nobody messes with Joe Roman.” The bully tarantula, Artie finds his courage. He faces Joe Roman and his band of bullies head on. But will he walk away with a victory? Or will he be pummeled to the ground by speeding dodgeballs?

With its clever twists and fantastic dialogue, this graphic novel feels like a full length young-adult book. And the bold, colorful pictures make the story even more exciting. If you like dodgeball, tarantulas, magic lockers, or the tale of King Arthur, you’ll definitely get a kick out of this fun graphic novel.
