Check your local newspaper for listings, do a quick Google search for event listings in your area or try calling an environmental organization or business to see if they have anything special going on.

Some organizations are free to while others may require a hip fee. Also, you’ll have to choose a group that has goals and priorities that match your own. Celebrating Earth Day can be as simple as committing to buy local products that are grown and/or made as close to where you live as possible, so they don’t waste fuel being transported to your town or city. If you need to shop for a new item of furniture or clothing, a new book, stereo, TV or just about anything else you can think of, why not go green and buy it secondhand in honor of Earth Day this year? Visit antique stores and secondhand book and clothing stores in your area, or check to see if there are any garage sales or flea markets going on around town. You’ll spend a lot less many than if you were to buy new and you’ll probably find unique, one-of-a-kind items that no one else will have!
