Last week, 84 of the most beautiful women in the world traveled from 84 different countries to the Bahamas to compete for the title of Miss Universe 2009. The women strutted their stuff in masks glued to their gowns. Unfortunately, the number dwindled to 83 when Miss Turks & Caicos withdrew because of dehydration.

Stefanía Fernández, a 19 year old woman from Venezuela, was crowned Miss Universe 2009. And to add to this excitement, this year’s Miss Universe pageant made history. It was the first time any country has ever won two years in a row. Way to go Venezuela! It was the former Miss Universe’s job to place the crown on Stefanía’s head. But she was so excited to the crown to a fellow Venezuelan that the crown fell to the floor! Whoops!

Here are the Runners-up:

  • 1st Runner-up: Dominican Republic
  • 2nd Runner-up: Kosovo
  • 3rd Runner-up: Australia
  • 4th Runner-up: Puerto Rico

  • Strangely enough, the crowned winner, Miss Venezuela, scored the lowest of the top five women—an 8.86—during the final evening gown competition with her classic red off-the-shoulder gown.

    But there were more awards up for grabs than just the crown. Venezuela may have won the title, but Diane Broce from Miss Congeniality.
