International Literacy Day started in 1965 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). It’s celebrated around the world each September 8. In 1990, the United Nations General Assembly gave world literacy a boost by proclaiming it International Literacy Year. This special year signified the ongoing commitment of the entire world to recognize and literacy for all.
