Born in 1984, Esperanza Spalding grew up in what she describes as a “bad neighbourhood” in Portland, Oregon. She says she was influenced by classical cellist Yo Yo Ma performing on an episode of Mister Rogers’ Neighbourhood when she was only four years old! She taught herself to play the violin by age five and by age 15, she was already performing gigs onstage in Portland! Check out her performance on the show Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Esperanza’s Eclectic Style 5s56t

Esperanza’s unique personal style is a bit boyish and a bit vintage inspired! She loves to mix boyish vests with heavy beaded necklaces, feminine blouses and flat lace-up shoes or pair a mannish blazer with a lace top. What we love about her outfits is the way she throws together unexpected items!

Esperanza is a big fan of accessories - we love her cool head scarfs and head bands! A chunky bold necklace, a sparkly pair of ballet flats or high heels paired with skinny jeans makes a big statement with minimal effort. She loves to wear girly tops and blouses but makes it look less frilly by pairing them with flat shoes and funky accessories. On or off stage, she wears what she likes and looks comfortable in it, exactly what fashion is supposed to be about!
