In the game, you get a basic deck that is already made for you and you can play against the computer in the campaign to unlock more decksm, as well as new cards that you can use to customize your current deck. There are no boosters to buy and you are limited in what you can do with your deck. If you want the full experience of Magic, including making your own deck from scratch, you can play Magic the Gathering Online or just play the actual game itself!
Instead of worrying about making the strongest deck possible, Duels of the Planeswalkers forces you to improve your skills in piloting a deck against other decks of similar strength. This way, it is playing skills that will dictate who wins the duel.
