Amy Adams’ parents Kathryn and Richard are American, but because her dad was a U.S. serviceman she was born in Italy. She grew up in Castle Rock, Colorado in a Mormon family (she has six siblings!). From a young age she loved to perform, and in high school she was part of her school choir as well as being an apprentice dancer at a local dance company. Amy dreamed of becoming a ballerina one day. It’s also safe to say performing ran in the family - her dad sang at restaurants for a living after leaving the military and her mother was a semi-professional body builder. Her life wasn’t all fun and games though, she also had to work as a restaurant hostess and a greeter at the Gap when she left high school to herself.

Amy found work as a dancer at two different dancing. Instead she turned her attention to acting, and landed her first on-screen role in the teen beauty queen comedy Drop Dead Gorgeous. Kirstie Alley, who starred in the movie, convinced Amy that she was talented enough to move to L.A. and make it big, and she did! After moving there she landed a memorable part in the Leonardo DiCaprio movie Catch Me if You Can and the independent film Junebug, which garnered her praise from film critics everywhere (including an Academy Award nomination).

Amy’s star was slowly on the rise after those two films, but it was her role as Giselle in the Disney live-action/animated Enchanted that really threw her into the spotlight. She often plays characters that are unendingly optimistic with a sad twist, so her role in Enchanted suited her perfectly. After that the offers for great parts started rolling in, and she has starred in movies like Sunshine Cleaning, Academy Award Winner Doubt, Julie and Julia and, of course, The Muppets!
