At its core, Mario Tennis Open is a basic Wii Sports, it is mostly about timing. However, there is one important mechanism to note: the Chance Shot. Every now and then, a colored will appear on the ground. If you can reach that spot and perform the correct move, you will get a powerful shot!
Alongside the classic Singles and Doubles tournament, you can also play various mini-games to improve your play. You can earn coins that can buy items for your Mii. Equip different clothing and Doubles. When facing the harder computer players, it all comes down to waiting for the Chance Shots, which can get boring fast. You can play with friends, however, and these games are more interesting, especially when Chance Shots aren't 100%. You can also play co-op in Doubles if you want! Overall, the game is fine if you enjoy Mario and/or tennis. However, it is easy to get bored of this game quickly, so it may be better as a rental.
