Stephen Amell was born May 8th 1981 in Toronto, Canada. Stephen started out his career on Canadian shows like Degrassi: The Next Generation, Da Kink in My Hair and Heartland, and even won a Gemini Award (which is a bit like a Canadian Oscar) early in his career for his guest-starring role in the sci-fi sceries ReGenesis and for his role in Rent-a-Goalie. In 2010 Stephen moved to the U.S. to try his luck with bigger shows, and I think we can all agree he was successful!

If Stephen looked like a familiar face when he debuted as the lead for Arrow this fall, it might be because you recognize him from Season 2 of The Vampire Diaries, where he snagged the recurring role of a werewolf named Brady. Playing dangerous characters (whether good or bad) seems to be Stephen's strong suit, and the next major role he landed was of convicted real life murderer Joran Van Der Sloot in the Lifetime TV movie Justice for Natalie Holloway.

Stephen was on a roll when it came to TV roles, and appeared on TV shows from mysterious island for years, Oliver returns home a changed man, ready to rid Starling City of the underhand forces that control it.
Stephen spilled to Collider about getting cast:
I was available for pilot season, and Arrow was the first thing I auditioned for. It wasn’t the first script that came to me, but it was my first audition. My friends were laughing at me because the unofficial start of pilot season is February 1st, and February 1st is the day I got cast. They were joking and were like, “So, how was your pilot season? Was it good? It took you until noon to get cast, you jerk!” It was funny.
