Dear Dish-it, 3m5p5y
I love taking pictures. My parents bought me a small camera for Christmas, but I don’t think they understand my ion. I’m pretty good at it. I’ve read books on photography, looked online and asked for advice. I’m ready for a professional digital camera. How can I make them buy me one?

Dear Photographer, 72a4d
Photography is a great ion. It’s a hobby that you could, one day, turn into a career. A good way to prove to your parents that photography is the direction you want to go in is to send your pictures into photography contests. If you win, you’ll definitely get their attention.
Create a Portfolio 6k6q40
Another way would be to take pictures at family or school events. Build a collection or portfolio of excellent quality pictures, like you would if you were applying for a job, and present it to your parents.
Be Mature 5x2x6q
You could also sit down and have a mature conversation with your parents, explaining to them how much you know about digital cameras already, informing them of all your research so that they know this isn’t just a hobby that will soon be forgotten. If you have a good argument, they may take you more seriously. Another tactic is to offer to pay for a portion of it, or to do chores around the house to earn the camera.

If all else fails, try participating in a photography class. Most communities offer these, and so do a lot of high schools. You could also the yearbook committee or school newspaper as the photographer. The more you express your interest, the more your parents will take you seriously. Good luck!
