You probably can't tell from the American movies he's been in, but Brenton Thwaites was born in Cairns, Queensland (Australia) August 9^th, 1989. He grew up in Cairns, and has a sister, Stacey. He stayed in Queensland to attend The Queensland University of Technology where he studied acting - no surprise there! While at school he made his film debut in Charge Over You, an independent film. Although he always dreamed of leaving his home on the Northeast coast of Australia, he now he its that he misses it a lot because he's close to his family...and maybe also because he loves surfing.

After graduating in 2010, he moved to Sydney to pursue his acting dream, and right after university Brenton landed a role on an Aussie teen drama called SLiDE, all about a group of teens from Brisbane growing up. That's not the only show Brenton starred on, he also went on to star on the long-running soap opera Home and Away.

The small screen is great,  but Brenton was ready for bigger things and was introduced to American audiences when he became a Prince - not a real one! He played Prince Phillip in Maleficent, the recent re-imagining of The Sleeping Beauty story.

The Giver is a beloved Y.A. novel by Lois Lowry that has just been adapted for the big screen and Brenton has taken on lead role, Jonas. The Giver is out in theaters this summer!
