Our E3 2017 PlayStation Predictions 326l4r

Apr 20, 2017

By: Max Cannon

It's almost here, that beautiful time of year when we hear about all the games we'll be playing in the coming days/months/years. Since the announcement of the PlayStation 4 in 2013, Sony has been hitting it out of the park with their E3 showings. There will be big things this year, but what will we see? And from who? Here are our E3 2017 predictions for PlayStation.

1. New Gameplay From Naughty Dog 2c362p

Naughty Dog has shown off some historically awesome footage on Sony's stage. Fantastic gameplay from both Uncharted 2 and 3 put them on the map, and the jaw-droppingly gorgeous first ever look at Nathan Drake on a PS4. I'll always have soft spot for their gameplay demo from The Last of Us, but can they top it?

As of today, Naughty Dog has 2 projects in development: Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and The Last of Us Part IIUncharted: The Lost Legacy is a piece of standalone content that was revealed during PlayStation Experience in December of 2016, taking Nathan Drake out of the picture focuses on his former partner, Chloe Frazer, and his recent enemy, Nadine Ross. Wrapping up that same conference, we saw our first trailer for The Last of Us Part II but nothing else has been shown off since.

My bet is that we'll get either a longer, more in-depth trailer for The Last of Us Part II or some gameplay for the project. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy has already shown off in-game footage, and a new cutscene accompanied by an August 22, 2017, release date so I feel like it'd be erroneous to show off much more.

Regardless, I can almost guarantee that we'll see Naughty Dog at the show.

2. Rockstar Games 2x1548

Confirmed with a trailer late last year, Rockstar Games' follow-up to Red Dead Redemption, boringly titled Red Dead Redemption 2, will be released in the latter half of 2017. Unlike The Last of Us or UnchartedRed Dead isn't exclusive to the PlayStation brand, which means that the game will also be showing up on Xbox One. However, the game's reveal trailer was shown off on PlayStation's YouTube channel and not Xbox's.

Rockstar Games also has a past history of showing up during PlayStation's E3 conferences. A few years ago we saw our first look at GTA V on current gen consoles with PlayStation, before that we saw GTA V get an exclusive bundle with PS3, and way before that we heard about Rockstar's PlayStation exclusive Agent, which never released and was never publicly canceled -- though I think it's fair to assume that the game is dead.

That trailer's inclusion on PlayStation would suggest that they've struck up a marketing deal to show the game as a PlayStation-centric title. We've yet to see any cold, hard gameplay and E3  would be a perfect time to lift up the curtain for the first time. Of course, the game could show up at Xbox's show, especially to promote their Project Scorpio, but PlayStation would more than likely prefer to pull the trigger.

3. Last Year's Games Get Release Dates s5m6s

This one is a doozy and a catch-all. Last year Sony's conference showed off God of War, Detroit: Become Human, Spider-Man, Day's Gone, Death Stranding and probably others that I don't -- but they really did show off a lot of cool stuff. All of those games don't have a release date yet but I'd suspect that we'll get the official word during this year's conference.

Thought a lot of gamers would disagree with me, I think God of War, Detroit, and Spider-Man will be releasing by the end of this year. Heck, I was surprised that Detroit hadn't hit store shelves by the end of 2016. While I think Death Stranding is the least likely to get any more information shown off about it, I wouldn't be surprised if they at least reminded us that it existed.
