Dec 09, 2019Unlike the Nintendo Online subscription. In addition to allowing you to play Switch games in online multiplayer, Switch Online offers a growing library of NES and SNES games that you can hop into instantly. It isn’t as in-depth or expansive as the Virtual Console was, but it is a great way to easily try out games you may have heard of. Here are all the games that are coming to Nintendo Switch Online on Decemenr 12th.
Breath of Fire II 1o6d1p
Breath of Fire II is one of the many classic role-playing games released for the Super Nintendo. Square Enix, or as they were known at the time just Square, were the kings of this era, but Capcom’s Breath of Fire series stood toe to toe with the greats like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. In Breath of Fire II, you play as Ryu (Capcom loves naming characters Ryu) and you embark on a quest with your companions to explore dungeons, battle monsters, and clear your name of a crime you didn’t commit. Check this one out if you’re hungry for some classic, turn-based Japanese RPG goodness.
Crystalis o435
If you want a bit more hack-and-slash in your RPGs, check out Crystalis. It takes place in the far future of 2097, where mankind has been forced to return to a simpler way of life. Mutants are on the prowl, but humans have begun to harness the power of magic to put them at bay. Having a fantasy setting be set in the future of our present-day was a neat idea at the time, and the game reviewed well when it came out.
Journey to Silius 1c4131
Moving on from RPG’s, Journey to Silius is a run and gun side-scroller that was originally supposed to be a Terminator game, but had to change directions when the developer Sunsoft couldn’t get permission to use the film as their inspiration. The final game ended up being still very close, and the main character you control, Jay, still battles hordes of robotic enemies across five different stages.
Kirby Super Star 4cz2k
Kirby Super Star is one of Masahiro Sakurai’s first games. The director would later go on to change fighting games with Super Smash Bros., but Kirby Super Star was one of his first big hits. The game is unique in that it can technically be described as eight bite-sized games in one, with each featuring some unique scenarios for you to play through as Kirby. It reviewed incredibly well when it first came out and remains a favorite for Kirby fans to this day. If you like Smash Bros and want a sneak peek into the history of the character and its director, Super Star is a great piece of gaming history.
Star Fox 2 6j4az
Star Fox 2 is a special one for a couple of reasons. First off, the game never actually released back in the day. It was completed and ready to hit store shelves, but it was going to release just a tad too late (or so Nintendo thought). It was going to come out in 1995, but by then the Nintendo 64 was about to come out and games were about to be changed forever. It wouldn’t see the light of day until 2017 with the release of the SNES Classic, where Star Fox 2 was fully playable for the first time. Now, if you don’t want to track down a SNES classic, you’ll be able to enjoy this canceled space shooter and take the fight to the dastardly Andross with the Star Fox team once more.
Super Punch-Out!! 5p615r
In Super Punch-Out!! you step into the boxing ring as Little Mac, whom you might recognize from Smash Bros as you take on boxer after boxer in his quest to become the Champion. Simple set up, but it is more than enough to get the simple, but addictive and often challenging gameplay the series was known for going. It isn’t as well-ed as Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out on the NES, but it's still a fun time. The characters are bombastic, the action is intense, and the overall presentation is one of the best on the SNES.
