Putting the “Paper” in Paper Mario 6g2j7
This Mario can stretch his paper arms out with the “1,000-Fold Arms ability” for both combat moments and puzzle-solving, and the look of the world is doubling down on the paper look as well. Mario will meet a brand new cast of characters like his new ally Olivia and can recruit known characters like Bowser. The banter between characters has always been a treat in this series, so hopefully the even sillier concept this time around will lead to some great moments.
Combat and Exploration 3z1ec
Origami King features an all-new, puzzle-like combat system. Mario is in the center of several rings that can be spun to line up enemies for special attacks. The Paper Mario series has always shaken up its combat system, from the traditional turn-based RPG battles of the Sticker Star on the 3DS. Origami King’s combat is not just unique for the series, but for gaming in general. It has an element of puzzling to it that will no doubt get more complicated as the variety of enemies increases. Exploration appears to be even more expansive than previous games as well, featuring your typical walking around but also travel by boat as seen in a brief snippet in the trailer. All in all, if you like the heavier focus on the paper side of Paper Mario, The Origami King looks to be another solid entry, although time will tell if it will reach the lofty heights of the original game and The Thousand Year Door. The game is coming out on July 17th for Nintendo Switch.
