The best way to get to know someone that you like is to talk to them one on one. You could score a date right away, but it'll make it easier to chat with him in the future.
If you make the first move, he'll know that you think he's cool and if he's interested in you, he'll be compelled to chat with you more often. Don't try to push anything too quickly, cuz it takes time to get to know someone. It does make it a bit harder that you don't go to the same school, but it's bowling, ice skating, etc.) is a much better choice. Good Luck!
