This album is a journey of a woman's search to find love, and each song is a continuation of the previous track.

The first track, Lose My Breath, is about a man full of empty promises, so the woman turns to a Soldier who can protect her. After finding a good man, she wants to cater to his every need in Cater 2 U. Destiny is fulfilled in the end with the last track, Love. The woman finally finds love in God and within herself, which is why she can eventually find love with a man.

For the first time, Beyonce acknowledges her relationship with Jay-Z. In the track, Soldier, she sings, "We like dem boys up top from the BK," which stands for Brooklyn where Jay-Z is from.
