1Hey Coach,
I am on the track and field team and I do long jump. I'm better in long jump than other sports in track and field but the problem is that I don't know how to do the long jump very well. My coach shows me how but I can't seem to jump very far. Do you have any tips?

The most important things to think about in the long jump are your approach, your takeoff, your flight and your landing. Here are a few things to think about in each of these steps.
  • The Approach - A strong approach with your body further through the air by circling your arms.
  • The Landing- You should start preparing for your landing when you reach the peak of your jump. Thrust your legs forward and extend them outward. As you hit the sandpit, bend your knees and move your body forward. You may need to lean to one side to stop yourself from falling backwards.
  • The key to being successful at the long jump is to have a good technique at each stage of the jump. A strong approach will lead to a better takeoff, which will lead to a better flight and a longer jump.

Do you need tips or advice on sports, fitness or health? to the Kidzworld Coach. Keep in mind peeps, the Kidzworld Coach isn't a doctor or a professional athlete or anything like that. He's just a dude who digs sports, plays 'em and knows a lot about 'em. You should always talk to your 'rents, a doctor or your school gym teacher before starting a new sport or a new exercise.
