The original Madison Square Garden opened in 1879 and was built mainly for track cycling. The Garden moved two more times around Manhattan, before the fourth and current one opened in 1968. The arena is located in central Manhattan on top of Penn Station, which is one of New York City’s major train stations.

The Garden hosts several college basketball tournaments as well, including the Big East Tournament.
