Jeannie Ortega's first album, No Place Like BKLYN, debuted at number one on the screaming fan at her first concert. We sat down with her to talk about it.
Sindy: What was the first concert you ever went to?
Jeannie Ortega: Backstreet Boys.
Sindy: Where was it?
Jeannie Ortega: Um, was it the Nassau Coliseum? Yeah, I think it was the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island.
Sindy: Cool. How was the show?
Jeannie Ortega: It was great! I had never been to a real concert before and I didn't really know what to expect. It was just incredible. There were pyrotechnics everywhere; the band was flying on ropes and stuff. We had really great seats too. It was so much fun.
Sindy: Who did you go with?
Jeannie Ortega: I went with my older cousin because we were both really big Backstreet Boys fans and she was just like, "You know what? I'll treat you for your birthday gift." And I was just like "Oh my God, we're sitting so close!"
Sindy: Did that first show inspire you to want to become a musician?
Jeannie Ortega: It did inspire me to make sure that my shows are as good as they can be. Just to know that a concert could be that exciting was really inspiring. It was so just in-your-face, so when I finally got to perform myself, I really realized how much work it is. They really did know how to put on a great show and get the crowd excited. Man, and I really enjoyed the explosions.
