Special - 2001 MTV Movie Awards 3o3k1w

Dec 27, 2006

This is, by far, my favorite awards show. The MTV Movie Awards have the coolest categories, the funniest presenters and the best behind-the-scenes footage. This year they even got the hosts right! So read on to get the details on who won Best Kiss, who wore the worst outfit and what crazy thing Jim Carrey did this time.

Best Dance Sequence went to Cameron Diaz for her booty-shakin' underwear dance in Charlie's Angels. The Angels also won Best On Screen Team but only Cam was there to accept the award. Well, I mean I saw her on my TV screen - but I don't actually think Ms. Diaz was there. The lights were on but nobody was home - if ya know what I mean. She used her dress to wipe her armpits and she carried a loaf of bread on stage as a gift for the audience (she never gave it to anyone though.)

Best Villan went to Jim Carrey. I had a hard time believing he deserved it for the Grinch over Jaoquin Phoenix's evil monarch in Gladiator - but I was glad he won something. Jim gives the best acceptance speeches and MTV lets him go nuts. This time he wasn't dressed like a hippy or talking through his butt - he accepted his award telepathically. He just stood there and a voice-over played as if you were in his head.

Again this year the stars came out to present, even if they weren't nominated. There was Brendan Fraser and The Rock, Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan and Cameron Diaz and Mike Meyers. Of course most of these guys are in films that are now showing or will be showing soon so there was a lot of self-promotion going on. Exhibit A: Halle Berry telling the world to go see her boobs in the movie Swordfish. Mike and Cameron saying the word Shrek as many times as possible on camera. But it was still cool.

The Hosts with the Most. 5d5y1z

This year the show was hosted by Jimmy Fallon and Kirsten Dunst. I thought that this was an odd combination when I first heard about it. SNL's Weekend Update guy and the head cheerleader from Bring it On - a little weird. But Jimmy and Kirsten were hysterical. The opening scene had them doing a parody of Madonna's hit Tell Me and it was great. Then Jimmy did a bunch of crazy impressions of people like Adam Sandler, Jerry Seinfeld and Chris Rock. Kirsten did no impressions (really Britney, she didn't) but she cracked some pretty funny jokes. Definitely a winning combination.

Okay there were three musical performances during the event. Weezer - they were okay. The Christina's next move.
