Different areas of the brain aren't working properly. For example, when your grandpa keeps asking the same question over and over, the part of his brain which uses memory is broken and can't be fixed. It's as if the computer in his head crashed and he can't retrieve information he put in earlier in the day or last week.

Alzheimer's disease is not contagious. Some people get diseases like diabetes and cancer and other people do not. Experts are working very hard to find a treatment to help people with Alzheimer's disease.

You can show the person that you love and them by smiling and hugging them. If the person gets frightened, angry or upset, just tell them you love them. Have lots of discussions about Alzheimer's with your parents so you can understand what’s happening.
