Kidzworld chatted with Tanner Howe, the lead singer and songwriter of the hot new band, Disco Curtis. Check it out!
When Tanner Howe’s not on stage performing with Disco Curtis, he’s busy working in his “cave,” the name he gave to his at-home recording studio. (Psst, the secret entrance is behind a bookshelf in his room.) But don’t worry, Disco Curtis fans, Tanner will be leaving his cave in March to the rest of the band as the guys hit the road on tour.

“We’ll be heading out for California first,” Tanner says. “We’re going to L.A. for five weeks to do some writing and shows out there. Spring tour won’t start until the end of March—but we’re doing Bamboozle [a festival in Anaheim) and then hitting the road soon thereafter.” One stop on tour will be Vans Warped, a huge punk festival that hosts dozens of bands. Tanner will be sharing the bill with two of his favorite bands, the All American Rejects and Sum 41. “One of the first songs I learned to play on guitar was Swing Swing and we’d play In Too Deep way back in the day too, so it’s cool that we’re playing with them now,” Tanner says.

And does Tanner have how horrible would that be? I dated a girl a long time ago that didn’t like that I played music. Yeah, that broke us up. It was the girl before Ashley [the song Ashley is written about her]—this was a girl from my freshman year.”

“Ashley was a girl that I dated right before Disco Curtis,” Tanner explains. “She just wasn’t the best girl, she was not what I look for in a girl,” he laughs. “She had some jealousy issues, so I’m just being more selective these days.”

The Dallas native has been holed up in his studio “pretty much every week.” As far as studio recordings, Tanner says, “We’ll be going back pretty soon..if not in the spring then very early summer to record and release an EP under Interscope—we’re really excited about that. What I’m doing now is recording about 25 demos so we’ll have them ready—so we can have our pick.” Check out Disco Curtis when they start their national tour this Spring!
